The Orchids (Laurie Bell - drums, Laurie McAllister - bass, Jan King - guitar/vocals, Che Zuro - guitar, Sunbie Sinn - guitar) released their one self-titled album in 1980. Can you spot the Runaway in the lineup?

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I never thought i would see or hear an The Orchids song much less see a video. I remember back in the early 80’s looking for an album by the The Orchids…..no luck though. This band is of legendary, obscure, mythic proportions. I probably wont ever find an album by them but its good to know that they really did exist.

Have you ever fought a black lady?

Ahead of its time. The all girl group with this sound was popular several years later. They could have been a success if they were around in 1990 or so.

Do you remember when we took all the eggs left over and hit Kaufman’s house? That was pretty funny

oh one more thing! Laurie DID perform live with the Runaways. did a handful of gigs in California including their very last gig at Cows Palace, SanFrancisco Dec 31 1978. she was also on Rodney’s show with the Runaways ‘promoting’ the last album. she sounded the most coherent of the girls, talked about being in jazz bands previously…gg

howdy! lovely Laurie did not record with the Runaways. in fact, on their last album ‘And Now…The Runaways’, their bassist Vicki Blue did not play on either: Lita Ford did the bass tracks. Luscious Laurie did however appear in the promo videos for ‘Saturday Night Special’ and ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’ though she had nothing to do with the recording of the songs.

I had this record when I was a kid. There used to be a late night TV show called Hollywood Heartbeat that had videos of “progressive” music?
